Statement from the City of Hudson

HUDSON, WIS. – Chief Drew Spielman of the Hudson Fire Department issued the following statement today:

Yesterday, the City of Hudson residents voted to approve a $1.29 million increase in the property tax levy. This approval will enable the Hudson Fire Department to hire nine (9) full-time firefighters.

By funding full-time staff who work in the station, response times could be up to 8 minutes faster.

We are thankful for the Hudson community’s support and look forward to continuing to serve our residents and neighbors.

Results show 72% support for referendum to fund full-time Hudson Firefighters.

With the growing demand for fire and emergency services, City of Hudson residents received a survey asking for their input regarding how the City should approach funding for a more reliable, full-time Fire Department staffing model.

Survey results are now available.

The City Council is currently evaluating whether to place a referendum question on a future ballot. Additional updates about a potential referendum will be shared with the community as relevant.
